After much controversy, Bangladesh national cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan has finally been nominated as the Awami League’s Nowka marker. The world’s best all-rounder has been nominated for the Magura-1 constituency in the 12th National Parliament election.
Shakib has not had to face much controversy over the issue of Tamim Iqbal being left out of the World Cup team and Angelo Mathews being timed out. Especially, there was anger among cricket fans about him because Tamim was not included in the team.
During the World Cup, there were rumors that he was interested in being a Nowka marker candidate in this election. Finally, it is true that for the first time, the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team will contest the National Parliament election this time.
On November 26 (Sunday), Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will announce the names of the party’s nominated candidates for the 300 parliamentary seats at around 4:15 pm at the Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
Shakib took the Awami League’s party application form for Magura 1 and 2 seats and the Dhaka-10 constituency to participate in this election. Afternoon on November 21, he himself came to the Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue and submitted the form. Then on November 23, Shakib Al Hasan went to the Dhanmondi political office of Awami League President and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and met with the party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Apart from Shakib, former captain of the Bangladesh cricket national team, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has also been nominated for the Narail-2 seat. However, he is an elected member of parliament of the current Awami League.
