Punjab Vs Delhi Match Cancelled: Missile Attack Casts Shadow Over Ipl

Today’s IPL match in Dharamsala started with great excitement. The important match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals started at 9 pm. Even though the start of the game was delayed by an hour due to rain, Punjab got off to a great start. They scored 122 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in 10.1 overs. Priyansh Arya scored 70 runs in just 34 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh added 50 runs. But then the play was stopped when a sudden failure occurred in the floodlights of the field.

At first, everyone thought it was a technical problem, but soon it was known that the situation was deeper. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement that the match was called off due to a disturbance in an electrical tower. However, this also raised security concerns when spectators and players were quickly evacuated from the stadium. Cricbuzz reported that everyone was asked to leave the stadium, which was a direct reflection of the security concerns.

Shortly after this incident, there were reports of missile attacks in the areas adjacent to the border between India and Pakistan. India has claimed that Pakistan has carried out attacks in several places, including Jammu. After this, the stadium lights were switched off, and the IPL match was announced to be cancelled.

Tensions have been rising between the two countries since the recent terrorist attack on a tourist convoy in the Pahalgam region of Kashmir. In response, India attacked nine places in Pakistan, in which at least 31 people were killed. This war situation has also affected the sports arena.

Today’s PSL match Peshawar Zalmi vs Karachi Kings was postponed after the Indian drone attack near the Rawalpindi stadium last night. There is also uncertainty about the Lahore vs Peshawar match tomorrow at the same stadium.

Hosting the IPL match in Dharamsala is now in question. Because this venue is only 140 km away from the Pakistan border and air traffic is now also suspended there. As a result, the Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings match on May 11 has been shifted to Ahmedabad.

Amidst the current geopolitical tensions, the sports arena has also been covered in the shadow of war. Such decisions are being made for safety reasons, but it goes without saying that the joy of the sport is being lost.
