Severance Season 2 has ended and has raised new questions in the minds of the audience. The series has been mysterious since the beginning, and the mystery deepens in the final episode. The main character of the story is Mark Scout, who leads a division of Lumon Industries. His life is divided into two parts—one inside the office, the other outside. This division is created by a technology called “Severance”, which separates office life from personal life.
In the final episode of the season, Mark meets his old boss Harmony Cobel, where he is asked to complete a file called “Cold Harbor”. Throughout the season, the audience learns that if this file is completed, the life of his wife Gamera may be in danger. But at the same time, if it is not completed, the other ‘Innies’ within Lumon will cease to exist. As a result, Mark faces a difficult decision.
Mark learns that the numbers he sees on the screen every day are actually related to his wife’s mind. Based on Kier Eagan’s philosophy, these numbers symbolize four emotions—indifference, joy, fear, and anger. Mark realizes that the work he has been doing so far is dividing his wife’s mind into different characters. This increases his suspicions because he does not know who is really telling the truth.
Back in the office, Mark and Helly see a large picture showing all the important characters of Lumon. It is then that they realize that the company has made a grand plan to finish Cold Harbor. A mannequin of Kier is also placed in the office, which wants to witness Mark’s completion of the work.

Finally, after much hesitation, Mark completes the file. Immediately, the atmosphere in the office becomes strange, the lights go out, and a sudden storm of light and sound begins. The mannequin announces that Mark is now one of the most important people in history. At this time, Milchik arrives and Helly steals his walkie-talkie to stop him. Dylan also returns to help, allowing Milchick to be apprehended.
Mark takes the opportunity to run to the testing floor, where his wife Gemma is being held. There, new characters appear, who are conducting a strange goat sacrifice ceremony. Viewers learn that Lumon performs a ritual in which a goat is sacrificed to send a spirit to Kier.
Meanwhile, Gemma enters the Cold Harbor room, where she begins to open a baby’s crib. This is a reflection of a sad moment in her life, as she was shown in a previous episode to have had an abortion. Lumon wants to test whether it is possible to erase true emotions through Severance. Viewers can assume that this is not just a psychological test, but part of Lumon’s much larger plan.

Meanwhile, Mark is stopped by a worker named Drummond as he attempts to enter the testing floor. But his colleague Lorne takes his side and helps him. Mark then holds Drummond at gunpoint and takes him into the elevator, but then he goes back to the Outie and accidentally kills Drummond.
Eventually, Mark finds Gemma and tries to convince her that he is her husband. Although Gemma is initially oblivious, she eventually returns to the Outie and they have an emotional reunion. But then Dr. Mauer starts chasing them, as he doesn’t want them to escape from Lumon.
At the last minute, Mark and Gemma try to escape by getting into the elevator. However, Dr. Mauer warns them one last time, “You’ll kill them all.” They somehow make it back, but then Gemma’s new “it” incarnation, Mrs. Casey, returns. Mark realizes that his real mission is to free Gemma completely. He quickly takes her out of Lumon, but then Helly arrives.
Gemma begs Mark to go out with her, but Mark decides to stay with Helly. The final scene shows the two of them moving forward together into an uncertain future.
After this dramatic finale, many questions remain in the minds of the audience. It is not certain when Season 3 will arrive, but creator Ben Stiller has assured that we will not have to wait that long. This is a relief for the audience, because Season 2 left many big mysteries, the answers to which everyone wants to know.
