Pushpa 2 premiere setback: Will Telangana’s new rules harm the film industry?

The Telangana government has recently decided to stop special shows and ticket price hikes, which is going to have a big impact on the Telugu film industry. The decision will make it difficult for producers to recover their investments. In particular, a tragic accident took place on December 4 at the Sandhya Theatre, where a woman died and her eight-year-old son was hospitalized due to respiratory problems. The incident took place during the premiere show of South star Allu Arjun’s new film ‘Pushpa: The Rule’.

Allu Arjun was arrested after the incident but was later released on bail. The issue was discussed in the Telangana Assembly on December 21, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that no more special shows or ticket price hikes will be allowed in the state. Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy explained the decision in detail.

The new decision has created a lot of confusion in the Telugu film industry, especially for big-budget films that are waiting for their release. Producers usually try to recover their investment by using maximum shows and screens in the first few days and increasing the ticket prices. However, this new rule has become a major hurdle for big-budget films.

Some of the upcoming big-budget films include ‘Game Changer’, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. The film is set to release on January 10 and has been made on a whopping budget of Rs 450 crore.

Next is ‘Daku Maharaj’, which will release on January 12. The film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, Dulquer Salmaan, and Bollywood actor Bobby Deol. The film has a budget of over Rs 100 crore. Venkatesh’s ‘Sanganthik Kaho’ is also releasing on January 14, which is a family story.

‘Thandel’ starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi will be released on February 7. Their previous film ‘Love Story’ won the hearts of the audience, which has increased the expectations for this new film.

‘Hari Hara Veer Mallu’ is a much-awaited film by Power Star Pawan Kalyan, made on a budget of Rs 200 crore and will be released on March 28. This is Pawan Kalyan’s first film to be released after his political career.

Chiranjeevi’s ‘Vishvambhara’ is a fantasy action film, made on a budget of Rs 350 crore and will release in March 2025. Next is Prabhas’ ‘The Raja Saheb’, which is a horror comedy made on a budget of Rs 400 crore. It will be released on April 10.

Some of these films have high expectations from the audience due to their big stars and huge budgets. However, due to the new decision of the Telangana government, the box office collections of these films may take a big hit. Now only time will tell which films will successfully turn a profit.
