Incessant rains have caused extreme hardship in public life in Muksudpur since Thursday morning. Although it started drizzling in the morning, it increased after 7 am, which became a major obstacle for office-goers and students. Many people stood on the streets waiting for public transport for hours, but the number of buses was low. As a result, many people could not reach their workplace on time.
Due to this disastrous weather, traffic on the main roads of the city almost came to a standstill. Working people were in great trouble because they could not get local buses during office hours, especially around 8 am. School and college-going students also faced extreme hardship. Many students could not reach class, while some came to class wet.
Parents also became concerned about the safety of their children. Sending their children to school through these wet roads and muddy soil became a difficult task for them. Not only students or workers, but also daily wage workers, van drivers, construction workers, and small shopkeepers suffered the most.
Construction worker Rahmat Ali said, “No work was done on the site today. I was standing on the street, and no one called. There is no rice at home, I don’t know what to do.” Various construction activities have come to a standstill due to the rain.
For low-income people, rain means the cessation of daily income. Van drivers, hawkers, tea sellers, fruit sellers, or small shopkeepers on the sidewalks had a day filled with almost zero income. Sales in small shops in different areas of Muksudpur were much lower than expected.
Businessman Gaus Mia said, “Almost no one has come to the shops since morning. We have to spend the day sitting down. If this kind of rain continues, businesses will also suffer.”
According to the people of Muksudpur, the same suffering may continue in the coming days due to continuous rain. The local administration and traffic department have not taken any effective initiative in this regard yet.
