Mumbai Indians once again proved why they are one of the best teams in IPL history. They not only eliminated the Rajasthan Royals from the playoffs but also took themselves to the top of the table by beating them by 100 runs in Jaipur. This was their sixth consecutive win, and with this win, they showed how ‘returning to form at the right time’ actually works.
Mumbai showed absolute dominance right from the start of the match. They started a bit slowly in the Powerplay but quickly picked up the pace. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton put on an opening stand of 58 runs. Despite scoring 16 runs in the first three overs, Rickelton’s six and four, Rohit’s brilliant shots at point region changed the game. This partnership not only laid the foundation for runs, but also boosted the team’s confidence.
Even though Rohit was out in the middle overs, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya came in to bat. They seemed to keep the run flow going. The run rate hovered between 9-10 per over. Farooqui and Madhwal failed to handle the pressure. Suryakumar and Hardik were not just hitting the ball, their shot selection was perfect.
The real chaos came in the death overs. In this phase, Mumbai scored 71 runs without losing any wickets. There were spectacular ramp shots, flicks, pulls—everything was there. Suryakumar and Hardik both remained unbeaten on 48 runs. They did not hesitate to score runs in the last two overs of the match. Suryakumar hit a six on the last ball to end the innings at 217 runs.
The match started with a nightmare for Rajasthan. Centurion batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for a duck on the second ball. Then they started losing wickets quickly—Jaiswal, Rana, Parag, Hetmyer—all of them went back one by one. After losing 5 wickets in the powerplay, they came under pressure.
Bumrah showed in his experience why he is the best death over bowler. He took 2 wickets for just 15 runs. Trent Boult took 3 wickets, Karn Sharma 3. Even Hardik Pandya was successful with the ball. Rajasthan could not put up any fight, being bowled out for just 117 runs in 16.1 overs.

Archer put up a bit of a fight, scoring 30 runs, but that was just a consolation. Rajasthan’s innings seemed to be a disaster. They could not even survive the last over. Boult ended the match with 7 balls.
The way Mumbai dominated in this match in three phases—powerplay, middle overs, and death overs—was extraordinary. Not only with the bat, but they were also terrible with the ball. This was their 17th 200+ run in IPL history, and they have been able to defend it for the 17th time. It is not just winning a match, but crushing the opponent.
Now they will play against GT at their home ground on May 6. On the other hand, Rajasthan will travel to Kolkata and face KKR on May 4. Rajasthan’s chances are almost over now, and Mumbai will be looking to retain the top spot.
This win proved that with experience and pace, anything is possible in the IPL. Mumbai once again showed that they are ready for the big match.
