Katie Piper’s brave decision to get prosthetic eyes after acid attack

Katie Piper recently announced that she has decided to get an artificial eye, which will mark the beginning of a new chapter in her life. She suffered serious injuries and permanent scarring from an acid attack that occurred more than 16 years ago. The attack was carried out at the behest of her ex-boyfriend when she was just 24. The attack left her with severe injuries and facial disfigurement.

In a post shared on Instagram, Katie revealed that she had been battling physical problems for a long time and had finally decided to get an artificial eye shell. An artificial eye shell, or cosmetic shell, is a thin artificial eye that is designed to be placed over a blind or damaged eye. According to the NHS’s National Artificial Eye Service, it is custom-made for each patient.

In a video posted on Instagram, Katie can be seen preparing for an artificial eye. “This is the start of a new journey for me, and I have an incredible medical team behind it. I am so grateful to everyone in the NHS and the private healthcare system. I am so grateful for their talent and compassion.”

After the 2008 attack, doctors treated her eyes and were able to restore some of her vision. However, despite years of surgery, her vision has not fully returned to normal.

Katie Piper is now a mother of two and a successful television presenter. She has become a symbol of bravery and has highlighted the need for a supportive environment for people with scars or disabilities in society. She founded the Katie Piper Foundation, which aims to make it easier to live with burns and scars.

In 2009, she made a documentary about her experience called “Katie: My Beautiful Face”, which aired on Channel 4. She was awarded an OBE in 2021 for her work and service to the community.

Katie says she is both hopeful and a little nervous about this new journey. She seeks advice and experiences from others on Instagram. Her positive attitude and courage are an inspiration to many.
