If someone tries to use your Android phone or it has been unused for three days, a new security feature will automatically restart the phone and ask for a passcode to unlock it. Google’s new update has brought this feature, which is a big security enhancement for Android users.
This feature has been added to the new version 25.14 of Google Play Services, which will automatically restart the phone if the phone has been locked continuously for 72 hours, that is, three days. If this feature is enabled, the phone will go into Before First Unlock (BFU) state, which means the state before you turn on the phone for the first time. In this state, biometric logins such as fingerprint or Face ID will not work, and the phone can only be unlocked with a passcode.
This feature is mainly designed to ensure that someone unknown cannot easily unlock the phone if the phone is stolen or lost. It cannot be called a factory reset, because it only returns the phone to the BFU state for the purpose of increasing security.

Initially, this feature was supposed to be enabled by default, but Google later said that it is now optional for users. That is, you can turn it on or off if you want.
However, Google has not yet confirmed which devices this feature will support. It is effective for phones and tablets, but not for smart TVs or smartwatches.
Incidentally, Apple has also introduced a similar feature in iOS 18.1, where the phone restarts if it is not active for a long time and protects data from theft. Even the US National Security Agency (NSA) has advised every smartphone user to restart their phone at least once a week, so that cyber attack prevention is more effective.
This feature will gradually come to all devices as an update. Those who have received the new update of Google Play Services can go to Settings and turn it on. This is undoubtedly a big step in terms of Android security.
