The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) will start on May 4, which is big happy news for the country’s cricket fans. Although it is usually scheduled to start in March, this year’s league is starting a little late. However, the answer to this question that has been lingering in the country’s sports arena was found yesterday. Rafiqul Islam Babu, Chairman of the Grounds Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed this information.
The credit for this initiative regarding the DPL has been given to Tamim Iqbal. Former national team cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad shared this news by personally attending the transfer ceremony at the CCDM office adjacent to the Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday (April 18). Prime Bank bought Riyad from the transfer.
Regarding Tamim’s contribution, Riyad said, “The credit must go to Tamim. He came and took this initiative. Of course, it is a source of high income for cricketers, but at the end of the day, we all want to be on the field and play. There is nothing greater than getting the opportunity to play on the field.”
In addition, Riyad also said, “The most comforting news is that the Premier League is going to be played, InshaAllah. We were all waiting for this opportunity. It is definitely a matter of joy for the cricketers.”
The situation in the country’s domestic cricket has been unstable for the past few months, as the clubs boycotted the tournament, alleging the illegality of the BCB. However, the initiative taken by the BCB under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal has shown a glimmer of hope. Tamim Iqbal has made the DPL a priority after taking charge as the BCB president. Some clubs initially objected to playing, but at the request of the BCB, they finally agreed to play.
Now, everyone will be looking at this league, which will bring new enthusiasm to the country’s cricket and open new horizons for the cricketers.
